On Friday, November 22nd, students, staff and parents came together to celebrate diversity and culture among the community. This event was centered around sharing food, talents, and gratitude for all of the support, education, and love that the Metro community provides and receives throughout the school year. Student DJs Smooth & Kay-Kay provided the beats for the event, while Ms. Kim’s Dancers performed an Afro-Caribbean piece with vibrant skirts and authentic movement. There were student committees to plan, implement and execute all aspects of the event, ranging from marketing, communications and documentation to hosting, organizing and planning.
Parents also attended the event and were able to learn more about the Parents United for Successful High Schools (PUSH) programming happening at the school this year, which combines parent engagement workshops, family dinners and events that bring students and parents together for learning and educational involvement. Students & teachers along with staff from New York Mission Society, Urban Arts Partnership brought delicious food and desserts to share during an afternoon of fun, friends and family. It was a team effort which started out with a student’s voice and ideas. Great work, Metro, iDESIGN & PUSH!
