Monday, October 21st, marked the 4th annual Montblanc Young Writers Program- an event which gives 7 promising UAP playwriting alumni the opportunity to showcase their work and compete for a place as one of the 6 writers of The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway. Much like our annual 24 Hour Plays events, the 7 students are given one day to write and stage their plays, after which they are performed by a cast of industry professionals. This year’s cast included: Rachel Dratch, Frankie Faison, Gaby Hoffman, Hoon Lee, MUMs, Diane Neal, Eddie Kaye and Raviv Ullman.
After an evening of stellar performances, the panel of judges announced Devin Mojica as this year’s winner! Devin is a Sophomore at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, pursuing a major in Drama. He is the proud recipient of a full scholarship from NYU’s Higher Education Opportunities Program and Urban Arts Partnership’s Nagler College Scholarship for artistic and academic achievement. Over the past couple of years, Devin has been heavily involved in the NYC arts scene with a resume that includes: acting in The 24 Hour Plays off-Broadway at the New Group; writing for Montblanc’s and HBO’s Young Writers Program; hosting the Urban Arts Festival; participating in Master Classes; interning for Louie C.K.’s production company and assisting Urban Arts Partnership’s Life Stories theater program (of which he is an alumnus).
Devin won the 4th annual Montblanc Young Writers Program with his play ” Naughty List” directed by Ari Edelson (The Exchange, Artistic Director) and read by HBO actors Hoon Lee and Frankie Faison along with Urban Arts faculty member Kaya Chwals. See more on Devin here!
We look forward to following Devin’s process at the 24 Hour Plays on Broadway 2013!
